Understand
Belvoir fortress, located on a hill of the Naphtali plateau, is a remarkable and strategically positioned castle built in concentric design. Originally owned by a French nobleman, the fortress was later sold to the Order of the Hospitallers. Its primary purpose was to serve as an obstacle to the Muslim goal of invading the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem from the east. Belvoir withstood attacks from Muslim forces and held its ground. However, after a long siege, the fortress fell into Muslim control. Despite being ceded back to the Crusaders, lack of funds prevented the restoration of its fortifications, leading to its eventual return to Muslim control.
