Understand
Sanlitun, named after a bustling street that stretches for miles, holds a rich history and vibrant atmosphere. Translating to "Three mile village," Sanlitun is nestled in the midst of foreign embassy districts, making it the perfect spot for the birth of Beijing's nightlife. After an eventful day exploring the city, most visitors find themselves drawn to Sanlitun's captivating blend of shopping, dining, and entertainment. The heart of foreign nightlife in Beijing can be found here, with a main "bar street" split into two sections: the lively north and the casual yet affordable south. Alongside these, hidden gems in the form of cozy bars and pulsating clubs are scattered throughout the area. Sanlitun has gained a legendary reputation among travelers, though it's important to note that encounters with overzealous bar owners and souvenir vendors can dampen the experience. As the original nightlife hotspot, Sanlitun still holds its allure, but for a younger and trendier party scene, other destinations might be more suitable. Heading to the east side of Sanlitun Lu, also known as Sanlitun North, you'll encounter a variety of bars that offer expensive drinks. Here, the charismatic doormen will entice you with exclusive deals, hoping to tempt you into their clubs. To the south, beyond Gongti Beilu, lies a commercial area dominated by towering buildings. However, venturing a bit deeper into the compound reveals popular bars and restaurants that cater to the international crowd, especially Westerners.]
