The Barkly Tableland is an enormous and scarcely populated territory, comparable in size to the United Kingdom. However, it is home to only 5,900 people. Stretching from Newcastle Waters to Barrow Creek, this region is connected by the Stuart Highway, the largest paved road in the Northern Territory. Within this vast land, more than half of the population resides in Tennant Creek, a gold-mining village that experienced its last gold rush in the 1930s. To connect Tennant Creek to Queensland, the Barkly Highway was constructed, traversing wide grassy plains adorned with numerous cattle stations. These plains play a significant role in cattle grazing within the Northern Territory. Every year, approximately 140,000 tourists explore this region, many of them en route to the captivating Red Centre.
