When visiting West Baltimore, it is highly recommended to have a car for easier and safer transportation. While there are a few subway options, relying on foot or buses may not be the most efficient way to explore this part of the city. If you have a car, the main east-west roads to Baltimore County and I-70 are Edmonson Ave (US-40) and Liberty Heights Ave (MD-26). Additionally, North Ave, Reistertown Rd, Baltimore St, Lombard St, and Pratt St can also be useful for getting around. If you prefer a scenic route through the woods, Windsor Mill Rd and Franklintown Rd will take you to I-70. For specific attractions, such as the Maryland Zoo or the racetrack at Pimlico, the quickest route from downtown is via McCulloh (MD-129), which later becomes Park Heights Ave.
