Badami, the capital of the Early Chalukyas, was a prominent city in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh during the 6th to 8th centuries. Established in 540 A.D. by Pulakesi I, an early ruler of the Chalukyas, it is famed for its magnificent cave temples. Pulakeshi II, a great ruler, expanded the kingdom and achieved victories over various kings, including the Pallava king Mahendra Verman I.
