For over a century, Assam has proudly held the title of being a world leader in tea production. In fact, it currently contributes around 25 percent of the world's tea supply! But that's not all this region is known for.
Assam is also famous for its high-quality silk, locally known as "paat." This silk is cultivated using mulberry leaves and is unique to this area. What makes Assam even more special is that it is the only place in the world where all four major silk types are produced. Alongside the traditional silk, there is the luxurious golden silk called Muga, the eco-friendly Ahimsa silk known as Eri, which is bred on castor leaves, and tassar silk.
But Assam doesn't stop there. It also boasts abundant reserves of oil and natural gas, second only to Bombay High and Gujarat. In addition, Assam, along with its neighboring state Arunachal, is home to some of the richest biodiversity in India.
Prepare for an extraordinary journey through the tea-covered hills, shimmering silk workshops, and the mesmerizing wildlife of Assam!
