In World War II, it played a crucial role in trans-Atlantic flights and anti-submarine operations. It even became a vital space tracking station for the US during the 1960s. However, one of Ascension Island's most significant moments came in 1982, during the Falklands War. Serving as a valuable staging area for British forces, it proved its strategic importance. To this day, it remains a critical refueling point in the air-bridge from the UK to the South Atlantic. Beyond its historical significance, Ascension Island also showcases a diverse climate. Planning a visit to Ascension Island? Before you go, it's essential to apply for an Entry Visa well in advance, at least 14 days before your travel date. The visa, which can be obtained from the Administrator's office, allows you to stay on the island for up to 3 months. Remember, your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date into Ascension. Additionally, having comprehensive medical insurance that covers the cost of medical evacuation is mandatory. Safety first!
