Departing early morning from Christchurch, this train takes you on an unforgettable journey to Arthur's Pass, arriving mid-morning. If you're short on time, you can still make a day trip out of it. The train continues its route to Greymouth on the west coast, but don't worry, it turns back around and heads back to Arthur's Pass in the afternoon. It's the best way to make the most of your limited time. However, we highly recommend staying overnight for at least one night to truly immerse yourself in the beauty of Arthur's Pass. If you prefer to drive, Highway 73 will take you through Arthur's Pass. Brace yourself for a majestic and stunning road, but be aware that it can be quite challenging, especially during winter when the road may be covered with snow and ice. Chains are recommended at times, so if you're up for the adventure and ready to test your nerves, go ahead and hit the road. However, if you'd rather avoid the hassle, the train is definitely your best option. Don't miss out on the opportunity to witness the awe-inspiring sights of Arthur's Pass!
