Anguilla has a rich history, starting from its colonization by English settlers from Saint Kitts in 1650. However, the determined inhabitants of Anguilla never gave up on their quest for independence. After a successful revolt in 1969, Anguilla finally seceded in 1971. This significant milestone was officially recognized in 1980, making Anguilla a separate UK dependency. Despite its size and limited natural resources, Anguilla has managed to thrive. The island's economy heavily relies on luxury tourism, offshore banking, lobster fishing, and the financial support provided by emigrants. The tourism industry, in particular, has played a crucial role in boosting the construction sector and driving economic growth.
