If you are a non-Indian traveler planning to visit the mesmerizing islands of Andaman and Nicobar, there are a few important things to note. Non-Indians are required to obtain a Restricted Area Permit in order to visit the islands. However, this permit is now issued on arrival at the Port Blair airport, making the process more convenient. For those arriving by sea, it is essential to arrange the permit in advance, either in Chennai or when applying for your Indian visa. The duration of the permit is usually 30 days, although travelers without a confirmed return flight might receive a shorter permit of 15 days. To ensure a full 30-day permit, remember to request it in your application. It's important to note that if you provide your return flight date, your permit will be issued to end on that date, which may cause unnecessary inconvenience if you decide to extend your stay or encounter unexpected travel delays due to weather conditions. In Port Blair, permits can be extended for an additional 15 days, allowing a maximum single stay of 45 days. However, these extensions are granted only in deserving cases and require a brief departure from the islands for a minimum of 72 hours. The permit will be checked upon arrival at most islands, during hotel check-ins, and when booking ferry services. It is also mandatory to surrender the permit when leaving the islands, so be sure to keep it safe throughout your visit. The permit allows overnight stays in various locations, including South Andaman Island, Middle Andaman Island, Little Andaman Island (excluding tribal reserves), Neil Island, Havelock Island, Long Island, Diglipur, Baratang, North Passage, and islands within the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park (excluding specific islands). Additionally, day trips are permitted to South Cinque Island, Ross Island, Narcondum Island, Interview Island, Brother Island, Sister Island, and Barren Island. These day trips can be taken on boats with the opportunity for landing. Indian nationals do not require a permit to visit the Andamans, except for the Nicobar Islands and other tribal areas, where permits are rarely granted. To apply for these permits, kindly complete the prescribed form and address it to the Deputy Commissioner, Andaman District, Port Blair. Embark on an unforgettable journey to the exotic Andaman and Nicobar Islands!
