Anagni, a historic town located in Italy, holds a significant place in history. In ancient times, it served as a retreat for emperors seeking respite from the sweltering Roman heat. The magnificent Cathedral, erected on the remnants of a Ceres temple, stands as a testament to its rich past. Remarkably, Anagni gave birth to four popes from the illustrious Conti family during the thirteenth century. However, its prominence dwindled when, in 1302, Pope Boniface VIII, the last of the Anagni popes, was apprehended by King Philip of France, signifying a turning point for the town. As a result, the papal seat was ultimately relocated to the captivating city of Avignon, France.
