Amed, located along the beautiful coast of East Bali, offers a paradise-like setting for a truly relaxing holiday. Stretching from the village of Culik 14 km eastwards, Amed encompasses seven villages, including Jemeluk, Bunutan, Lipah, Selang, Banyuning, and Aas. With its slow-paced lifestyle and breathtaking coastal scenery, Amed is the perfect destination to unwind and soak in the natural beauty of Bali. While Amed is a relatively new tourist development area, it has quickly become a popular spot for divers. The famous USS Liberty wreck in Tulamben attracts diving enthusiasts from around the world, and the entire coast is dotted with excellent dive sites. Previously one of the poorer areas in Bali, Amed's economy relies on fishing, salt-making, and tourism. The introduction of tourism has significantly improved the standards of living, health, and education of the local inhabitants. Initiatives like the East Bali Poverty Project have played a vital role in raising awareness and supporting the local community. For those seeking a tranquil and scenic getaway, Amed offers a slice of paradise on the Indonesian island of Bali. Dive into the crystal-clear waters, explore the vibrant marine life, and immerse yourself in the rich culture of this hidden gem.
Get in
Amed, a charming village located on the north-eastern tip of Bali, is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. To get here, you can take a taxi from Ngurah Rai International Airport, which is about a three-hour drive away. The taxi service can be found outside the airport, just turn left after customs. The fare is approximately Rp 450,000 as of Nov. 2014. Another option to reach Amed is by turning east at the village of Culik, which is on the main east coast road from Karangasem to Singaraja. Shuttle buses are available from Candidasa and Lovina, and thanks to the improved road, they can now take you directly to Amed. Previously, buses stopped at Culik, and visitors had to be ferried into Amed by motorbikes. If you prefer a more convenient and personalized transportation, you can hire your own transport with a driver. Keep in mind that the Amed district stretches over more than 10 km, so having your own transport allows you to explore the area more easily. Local drivers are also readily available in Amed. For those coming from the islands to the east, Amed Sea Express offers pick-up services from Lombok, Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air. They have twice-daily service to Amed, arriving at 9:15AM and 1:15PM. This allows you to seamlessly continue your island-hopping adventure in this picturesque part of Bali.
