Aluva, a charming town in Kerala, is famous for its picturesque river banks of the Periyar River. Divided into two halves by the river, Aluva boasts a vibrant commercial town on the southern side and peaceful residential areas on the northern side. One of the main attractions of the town is the Shiva Temple, situated on the river banks, which holds deep traditions and legends. During the monsoon season, Aluva transforms into a captivating sight as the temple gets submerged under the river. This natural phenomenon adds a touch of mystique to the town's already rich history. Speaking of history, Aluva holds great significance as it played a crucial role in the defense against aggressions during the Travancore-Kochi era. The town became the first line of defense for the kingdom, with the northern side serving as the frontlines fortifications of the Travancore Army. On the other hand, the southern side flourished as a bustling commercial port, receiving boats loaded with valuable spices and commodities. Aluva's modernization began in the 1930s when H.H Maharaja Chitra Thirunal initiated an industrialization program. This led to the establishment of numerous heavy industries, making Aluva the largest industrial belt in Kerala. The construction of a large bridge across the Periyar River facilitated easy connectivity, further spurring the town's growth and diversifying its economy. After India gained independence, the town merged into a single municipality and became part of the Ernakulam district. Aluva received another boost when the prestigious Federal Bank chose it as its headquarters. This attracted several financial institutions, bolstering the town's local economy. In 1990, Aluva became part of the Greater Kochi Area, solidifying its position as a key satellite town of Ernakulam and an integral part of Kochi City.
