Understand
Alresford, a charming Georgian market town, has a rich history dating back to the Bronze Age. The village of Old Alresford, mentioned in the Domesday Book, was the initial settlement in the area. Later, a "Great Weir" was built to create Old Alresford Pond, giving rise to a new town known as "New Alresford". Remarkably, New Alresford is over 800 years old and is still referred to as Alresford by locals. The town exudes a quintessentially English ambiance, with its friendly atmosphere and traditional customs passed down through generations. Commuters find it quite inconvenient to travel to London from Alresford, resulting in a predominantly family-oriented and retiree population. Young residents often return to their hometown to establish their families, fostering a strong sense of community. The oldest and most picturesque part of Alresford can be found at the intersection of Broad Street, East Street, and West Street, where stunning Georgian townhouses and shops line the streets.
