Addo National Park, situated approximately 70km northeast of breathtaking Port Elizabeth, is an awe-inspiring destination to explore. As there is no public transport available to or within the park, having your own car is highly recommended. Car rentals are conveniently available in Port Elizabeth for your convenience. Alternatively, you can book an organized tour, but venturing at your own pace truly allows for an unforgettable experience. Addo National Park is also perfect for a day trip from Port Elizabeth, offering a taste of its magnificent wildlife and natural wonders. While on the road, keep an eye out for signs directing you to the 'Addo Olifant Nasionale Park,' reflecting the park's historical Afrikaans name. Two gates are accessible to enter the Colchester section of the park, which can be easily reached by regular cars. The northwestern entrance, Addo Main Camp, near Addo town, connects from the R335 off the N2 highway. Should you prefer the southern route, the Matylholweni Entrance Gate is conveniently located close to Colchester, with easy access via a short road from the N2. Both entrances are well-marked when traveling from the west, such as Port Elizabeth. Please note that if you choose to enter through the southern park entrance at Colchester, you will embark on a scenic journey along approximately 38 km of dirt roads, taking around one hour. However, this drive can be woven into your park visit, allowing you to explore the southern part of this park section through one or two scenic "loop drives." Gas stations can be found in Addo town, Colchester, and even within the rest camp in Addo. Prepare yourself for an extraordinary adventure in Addo National Park!
